How we learn

Considering that all of our children are not home-schooled, I felt it would be limiting to the younger ones to choose just one method of teaching. After all, no child learns the same way, right?  I'm an out of the box thinker, and my creative side likes to take charge. I did a lot of research at first, I knew how I wanted to teach them certain things, but was lost and need direction on some stuff. I discovered I was in love with both the Reggio Style and the Montessori method. As well as elements of tradition schooling and STEM, that some of our older kids were using. I developed a curriculum, based on a combination of several resources I've found and my own ideas. ** It will be available for download soon**

When it came to enrichment activities, I choose to plan one major adventure per month on a weekend. This way all the family could participate, and we use it as sort of a capstone of what we've all be learning. During the week, the girls and I take mini excursions, go to story time and play dates.  Eventually I'd like to establish a homeschool co-op, however for now, that will take a back seat.

We're fortunate to live in a neighbor-hood that is tucked into our the Cleveland Metroparks, making outdoor exploration super simple! We also camp during the summer, and that allows for different habitats to be observed on a long term basis. Our indoor space is shaping up to be bursting with colors and textures. A true wonderland for the mind. My only regret, is that the space only has 1 window [see my pouty face]. So... we take a lot of learning outside! Even in the snow.
